Insight

Folkness had built a strong direct-to-consumer business on WooCommerce, but the platform had become a source of daily friction rather than a foundation for growth. Managing products, orders, and inventory required more manual effort than the team could justify, and the architecture was not suited for the market expansion the business was planning. The stack was built around tech rather than core focus on commerce, and every operational task carried the overhead of a platform that had not been designed for the demands Folkness now placed on it.

The brand had heard consistently that Shopify offered a cleaner operating model, and a conversation with another merchant already running on the platform confirmed the direction. The need was not simply to move to a new platform. It was to build a setup that could support growth across multiple markets without turning operations into a management problem.

Idea

Iggy designed the migration around two priorities: reducing the operational overhead the team experienced day to day, and building a foundation that could support multi-market expansion without requiring a rebuild at each stage of growth.

Shopify was selected because its native admin, app ecosystem, and Markets functionality offered a commerce-first operating model that WooCommerce could not match. The platform gives the Folkness team direct control over products, content, and orders without developer dependency, which had been a recurring constraint on the previous setup.

The connection between Shopify and Fortnox was built using Junipeer as the Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) middleware layer. Rather than a direct point-to-point integration that would require custom development to maintain or extend, the Junipeer layer keeps Shopify and Fortnox independently maintainable while ensuring orders, inventory, and customer data move between systems automatically and in real time.

The Shopify setup was structured with future market expansion in mind from the start. Currency, language, and catalog configurations were established in a way that allows new markets to be added as a commercial decision rather than a technical project.

Impact

Folkness now operates on a platform the team can manage independently. The daily friction that came with WooCommerce, from product updates to order management, has been replaced by a Shopify admin built for non-technical users, reducing dependence on developer support for routine tasks.

The storefront scores +90 for accessibility, +92 for best practices, and +90 for SEO in Google PageSpeed Insights, reflecting a clean, well-structured build with no performance debt carried over from the previous stack.

The Fortnox integration runs automatically through Junipeer, removing the manual steps that had previously linked backend operations to the storefront. Order data, inventory levels, and customer records stay synchronized without team intervention.

The architecture Folkness launched on is built to scale. Adding new markets does not require a new build or a new integration project. The multi-market foundation is in place to support geographic expansion without rebuilding the underlying setup.
